Screencasting and MailChimp

In week seven, we were each given a program to learn about and we had to use screencast software to teach our fellow students about the program.

I chose to use Screen-Cast-O-Matic for my recording. The downloadable software was user friendly and had all of the features I needed. The video editor had to be used online because I didn't have a subscription for the offline version. This wasn't an issue for me.

Here is my presentation on MailChimp!

The only thing I didn't like about this project was that it had to be under five minutes, and that didn't feel like enough to me. Here is the entirety of the information I found about MailChimp.

MailChimp is and all-in-one marketing platform for small businesses that was founded in 2001 by Dan Kurzuis and Ben Chestnut. Dan and Ben had a full-time business and started MailChimp on the side; it was nothing more than an email marketing service.

By 2007, Dan and Ben realized that MailChimp was much more lucrative than their primary business. So, they chose to give that up and focus entirely on MailChimp. They immediately started rolling out new marketing tools to keep up with the changing needs of their MailChimp customers.

MailChimp values their employees. They show this by offering leadership development, learning resources, and enriching experiences both in and out of the office. They partner with Clayton State University to ensure MailChimp employees can get the education they need to succeed in starting their own small business. Finally, MailChimp invests in small and medium businesses. Especially those businesses that are founded by employees of MailChimp and students of Clayton State University.

Dan and Ben announced on September 13, 2021 that they had plans to be acquired by Intuit in 2022. Intuit currently owns QuickBooks, TurboTax, Mint, and Credit Karma. Dan and Ben will continue to be involved in the company. They feel that going with Intuit is the right choice because they will still be able to focus their efforts on small businesses, while also giving the businesses access to the many other services that Intuit has to offer.

MailChimp can be utilized without paying for a subscription, though it is recommended to have one. Plans run from as little as $9.99 a month to as much as $299.00 a month, with $14.99 a month being their most popular plan. There is also a pay-as-you-go option where you buy credits to only send mass emails as-needed. This would be a fantastic choice for businesses who do not need to stay in contact with their customers on a regular basis and do not have a huge contact list.

I really enjoyed learning about MailChimp and sharing what I learned with my classmates.
